I tried making Alice's Cookie Icing and it did not turn out well. The texture was great, but the taste... not so good. It had a weird taste and an awful after taste.

I've never really decorated cookies before other than coloring icing and using sprinkles. The icing looks great, I just wish it tasted better. If anyone has idea's on what I may have done wrong, I would love to know! Thanks!

I'm not saying this is absolutely what happened, but I have thrown out triple batches of buttercream for the same reason...the culprit? Offbrand powdered sugar. I actually tasted a little on my finger out of the bag and it was bitter with a strange aftertaste. That would be my first guess. Taste just a little of your sugar to see. THEN, make up smaller batches and experiment with the flavorings that YOU like-vanilla, almond, lemon, coconut, orange...just to name a few.

Also, some icing tastes horrible by itself. I can attest to this with the RI recipe. I tasted it and it was horrible to me, but everyone assured me it is different on the cookies, on they were right!

I think something must have been off, cause when I made Alice's icing, it tasted great, very buttercream like.
