I am making 30/40 Elmo cookies. About 4 " size covered with royal icing and in clear bags (1 in each bag). what is the safest way to mail them to a couple states away? What product do i use in box to cushion them and not break? I know it helps to have them baked on the thicker side but I need any other advice. do i buy cotton batting that quilters use to packed the layers between the cookies?

Thanks in advance. icon_biggrin.gif

definately use bubble wrap on each cookie.. I just sent a package 30 miles away and the bride just emailed me saying all the cookies were crushed.. and that was using a courier company not the post office. I thought since it was a short way, I would just stick them in a bubble envelope. Wrong, lesson learned. thank goodness they were only samples.
So bubble wrap and even use newspaper after you have securely wrapped the cookies, as extra cushioning. I would put a layer of bubble wrap between the cookies after each one has been packaged in it as well. then use some newspaper or that paper the stores wrap your glassware in.
HTH

thanks fraggle and idoweddingcookies, that helps a bunch. I already purchased roll of bubble wrap and will also do the newspaper and cotton. I will be so upset if they were all ruined for her party. i'll let you know and post a photo.

If you can, throw in a few extra just in case. If any break, they will have replacements. If none break, then they have a few extra cookies and will love you for it!

Most of my orders lately have been orders that I have shipped. I have learned a lot with each one. I wrap each cookie individually with bubble wrap, then I tape them to a piece of cardboard and then layer them like that. I put them in my pastry box tied up with my logo and ribbon then I put that box inside another cardboard box (usually a USPS priority Box), add newspaper or filler in the space between the pastry box and the cardboard box and then tape it up really good.

Since adding the cardboard layer step I have had NO cookies break in shipping and that is going united states postal service priority mail! I do always add extra cookies whenever I am shipping an order!

Good luck and let us know how it goes!!
