Beneficiaries Of Your Experimental Cakes

What do you do with all the trial and error cakes you make? If you say your family eats them, how much did they all weigh before you began decorating
No, seriously... I am trying to think of various organizations who would enjoy getting a beautifully, decorated cake from time to time. I also end up with a number of "new recipe" cakes. There is absolutely no way my family can (or should) eat all that I make. I have friends and family around who often benefit, but there has to be others out there. Any suggestions?
i send mine to work with my hubby too. the other day they said he told them I was making them a cake.. I was like huh? then he told me the practice cakes are theirs. he tells them I made it for them
How about: doctors offices, library, school, for friends to take to work, hospitals, or church functions. My church serves cake and coffee after every service. If you live near an office building, you can find out when they have regular meetings and maybe offer to send your cakes there. Just a few suggestions.
if you just want to practice decorating you can make a dummy cake --i seen one on this site-made with styroform rounds covered in plastic wrap so you can use it over & over. if you are practicing on different flavors with cakes you can also donate to different places-not sure where u r but maybe a shelters/womens shelter or another thought is to 'give' them to special resturants (that are not chains) in hopes to give a call back for their business
my DH doesnt want me practicing 'baking' cause he eats it
I bake every weekend and bring my goodies to work on Monday (which has come to be known as "Goodie Day"). My co-workers are my guinea pigs. ![]()
I am a military spouse so mine go to the hospital here, the church, the security department, the school teachers, PTA, and any other organization that I can find. I have actually gotten quite a bit of business from donating cakes.
Mine go to my work. I work in a recreation center and we have about 150 employees during winter and during summer about 250 employees. I don't think one has complained yet that I bring in treats too often. In fact I bribe them to come to meetings by saying I'll have a "special" treat for them.
I take them to work, take them to church on Sunday and my husband takes them to work as well.
For those of you that donate and get orders from them, are you licensed? I have thought of doing that, but to get licensed in NJ as a home baker is impossible ... so I'm not licensed. I don't do much business (but would love to change that) and don't advertise, so I don't think it's an issue ... but was wondering how others handle it.
Please don't spam me about not being licensed. It's not possible for me at this point. My baking is a "glorified" hobby.

I am not licensed and I never consider it as advertising when I donate, just as a generous gift and a way to share my gift with others, it is just a nice perk getting calls from people saying they loved my cake and want one of their own.
I too started out on my family...but then my dh said no more (he had gained 10 lbs!) Then I started bringing them to work and my boss said no more! (he also gained like 10 lbs!) So I now bring them to work and put them in the breakroom that is shared with 200 employees..and everyone knows they are one of my cakes. I get orders all the time now because of putting them in the breakroom! hahaha
I send most stuff in with my husband. If I want to make a large cake for home I send the leftovers in then too, those guys can go through a cake made with 3 mixes in a morning and there aren't that many of them. Sometimes they will even send money to cover ingredients so they have a treat, that way I get to play and they have a snack, they don't get a say in what I make though. ![]()
I have a few other places to take stuff but that's my big one.
It's work for me. My family doesn't really eat cake that often so I end up giving them to my neighbors and bringing them into work. Ussually a ll my cakes end up at my work. I make them wait until at least Tuesday before I bring it in. Although now it's almost to a point were they expect it and get disappointed if one's not there for them to devour in 2 minutes. I have gotten a few orders out of it but mostly they just like to eat and don't care why it's there just as long as it is there. Maybe it's time to find a new location of ginny pigs.
I sould definately find a new locale, you deserve love for the generosity that you provide!
