How do I get a gingham look on a cake? The red and white? Please help, as the cake is due tomorrow. Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm not real sure Misty...maybe you could get a gingham stencil pattern (they have them at Wal-Mart) and use the color paste and a stencil brush.

But this will give you a bump...sorry I couldn't help more.

I haven't done it...but why not try spraying squares? I'm thinking when it crusts, lay squares on the white and spray the red (or whatever color).

I do have the spray but I don't know how to get the squares. I was thinking if I could find a square sponge, which I can't then I could thin the icing down and dip the sponge in the red and leave every other square white, I was at Wal-Mart yesterday and didn't see the checked stensil, but I maybe I didn't look hard enough, I'm thinking of just doing the gingham around the edges of the cake, I'm not sure but I have about 9 hrs to get it figured out and delivered. Thanks for your help.

If you can't find the stencil...why not make your own? Cut squares out of a file folder (or something else sort of stiff). You could probably lay individual squares on where you want the white and then spray the red.

I like the sponge idea, if your BC crusts enough. You could cut a kitchen sponge to the size you want, it might be easier to get smaller squares that way.
What is going on top of the gingham? I'd love to see the cake when you're done!

THanks for all of your comments, I have now posted this cake, I decided to use a tip to do the gingham, it wasn't exactly what I wanted but I was satisfied overall with it, it was kinda one of those that I didn't know exactly what I was going to do until I did it.
