Can I use my 18" square board to put under a round 5 tier wedding cake? My first wedding cake is coming up in a few weeks and I'm not making any money off of it and would really prefer not to spend money on a round cake board if I don't have to.

Would it look funny if I did that?

here's a round on on a square board.......I don't personally think it looks bad........I guess if the cake is NOT the same size as the board it looks ok.......18"round bottom tier might not look that good on a 18"square board.......would just look like there were corners sticking out....otherwise I think you could do it.

Well first of all I have never done a wedding cake, so I'm no expert, but I have done a lot of decorating, you could put something on the table to cover the edges of the board, like material all fluffed up and loosely layed around the cake, or flowers or anything else that would match the theme. I know some places do the table setup, but its an idea. Hope someone else can help with ideas to.

I have also trimmed square boards down for rounds when I did not have a round on hand...

I think rounds look fine on a square board just as long as the board's big enough to actually show all sides, and it sounds like yours will be. I wouldn't worry about it. Here's a pic of a wedding cake I did. The bottom round was 16". I can't remember how big the square board was, but I think it looked fine.

um, KHalstead...where's your pic??

I also did a round wedding cake on the square tile & thought it looked pretty good. I agree...as long as the board is big enough to show the sides it should be okay.
