There are many things you can use to support your cake, bubble straws, very large straws I havent been able to find any place that has them. Or you can use dowels, or skewers. If your not sure of how to exactly do it, there are tutorials on CC and I know they have some on wilton.com Good Luck!

I use straws. The kind I'm using comes in assorted bright colors like pink, green, purple, ect. They're about the size of McDonald straws.

I used them on my lighthouse cake last weekend. As I was stacking the cakes a lady standing by said, " icon_confused.gif are you sure those straws are going to hold that up?" I proudly said, "Yep icon_biggrin.gif ". She gave me a funny look.

Anyway, they work. thumbs_up.gif

I use wooden dowels. You stick one into the cake (making sure it will be covered by the tier above it) and make on the dowel where the cake top is. Then you pull it out and cut it. Then just stick it back in. I usually put about 5 dowels per tier (four around and one in the center). I have heard straws work too. Just make sure you keep the cake that fills the straw, inside of the straw (it makes the straw stronger).
