I'd use the toothpicks too, neater, safer and sturder!
I just finished a cake last week which was covered in fondant and had the cascading fondant roses. I was told to adhere the roses with BC but it did not work at all! There was no way the BC could hold the weight of the roses so I ended up using toothpicks which worked great!
When applying fondant roses to a fondant-covered cake, is it best just to use BC to adhere them or should I leave them attached to toothpicks, esp. when they will be cascading down the sides?
I know this is a bit late, the cake looks great, but for next time you may consider using fondant to stick your roses on. Put a few pieces of fondant in a bowl and then add some drops of water, microwave it for 5 seconds to soften it and then beat it a bit to make a *glue*, it should be of a chewing gum consistency. THIS will be the best glue you can use to stick fondant roses to fondant. You dont have to worry about customers hurting themselves with toothpicks or the roses falling off.

You did a great job on your cake
. I love the colors you chose. They contrast very well.
