How Do I Get Fondant To Look Like Leather?

Ooooh, that's a great idea! And I just so happen to be going to the fabric store tonight for something else! This is why I love Cake Central - everyone always has such great ideas! I never would have thought of it! And someone else in the other topic said she cut open a football, flattened it out, and used that as an "impression mat" and it had great results too! Who would have thunk! You guys are the BEST!
I found that by spraying water on the fondant covered cake and letting it dry, it look a lot like leather. You can sort of see it on the purse cake in my photos. I need to spray close enough to the cake so that droplets formed and it took about 6 hrs. for the cake to dry enough so that I could finish decorating it.

the black cake in my photos looked like leather when you were right next to it, the picture doesn't show it to well though. I made MMF, and i actually think i added in a touch to much powdered sugar so it was a tad to dry. I haven't had a chance to play with it and see if i could get the leather look again, but wow did it look good.
Let us know what you do to get it to look like leather.
