My daughter wanted to take her teacher an "Apple" so I decided to try an Apple shaped cake inspired by missyek - Who was so kind as to give me directions! icon_biggrin.gif

I thought looked like a cherry (2nd) so I trimmed it down a bit and now I think it looks like a pumpkin (1st pic). It is a white cake covered in buttercream and smoothed Viva method. Stem is tootise roll and leaves are starburts.

Tips for getting a better shape welcomed!

Thanks again missyek !!

that's cuteicon_smile.gif I don't have any pointers cause I haven't done many sculptures...and the one's I've done have been pretty geometric so not as hard as doing an apple.

I bet the teacher will love it thumbs_up.gif

I like the shape of the first one(.007.jpg) more, though both look fine to me.

As to the shape, to my eye, it does seem a little off... (I think it should taper all the way down - not bulge in the middle) But I still knew it was an apple... and as long as you can tell what it is, you did good!

I was asked to do a peach once, and it looked like more like someone's butt than a piece of fruit. I hated it. lol

Nice work. I like it much better since you carved it down.

Guess what? Now that you have done your first 3D, you will think of everything in 3D!!!! It's so hard for me to do sheet cake now 'cause I love 3D. I'm learning so much every time I do a new one!

Congrats on a job well done!

Yahoo! Look at that! thumbs_up.gif So glad to help! Okay, I am a big McIntosh apple fan, so I do like the shape of the first pic--just need to rounds a bit more at the top. The second one looks just fine too! Great job for your first carved cake!!!! thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gificon_biggrin.gif

The first apple was right on target - made me nostalgic for the candy apples at the fair. icon_biggrin.gif
