I'm making a cake and need to know how to mix the color for rocks. The cake is going to be a "rock" in a meadow so need some help/suggestions on what color to make the rock and how to obtain that color. I don't really want to use fondant as it's for a diabetic so a lite coat of bc will be used (unless someone else has a better idea).

Thanks in advance!

You might try looking at volcano cakes to give you an idea of color. Painting with gel colors is probably the way I would go.

There are a few cakes with good rocks in the nature gallery.

Oh! What about brown peanut M&Ms. I know it's for a diabetic, but could it have that much more sugar in it than buttercream? Anyway it's an idea. HTH.

I would just do what you normally do, plenty of people don't eat the fondant anyway.
