I am making a grooms cake this weekend. It is a golfball sitting on a 10 inch square cake to look like it is sitting in grass. I am borrowing a ball cake pan from a friend and do not have instructions. Any tips or ideas on the kind of cake mix I should use, how to put it together so it will not come apart, etc.? All will be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
Here are the directions for the Sports Ball pan. I would recommend a pound cake recipe, though I have used yellow and chocolate and had no troubles with them. I usually just put the sides together with buttercream...It is really easy to use! HTH

I have used a regular cake mix with my ball pan. As far as how to put it together--if you are referring to the ball itself, you cut off a little of one of the halves so that it will be level and sit without rolling. Then you put the halves together as any other cake (ie. frost in between or put a filling using a dam). As far as putting the ball on the square, I would put a dowel rod through them both to keep the ball in place. HTH.
I used my ball pan to make a fish! I used a chocolate cake mix and after the two sides cooled I leveled them off and then cut a small bit off the bottom of one to make it sit level on the cake below and then put choc. buttercream in the middle like you would a layer cake. The hard part is getting the frosting on the bottom of the half round that sits on the bottom cake. I actually held it in my hand, flat side in my palm, and frosted the bottom then gently placed it on the bottom cake. I did put a dowlrod through the cake to make sure it didn't "roll" off!! Good luck!
