My first class was last night. icon_biggrin.gif It was so fun. I learned how to cut my cake with fishing line fill it and frost it. We learned the shell border(I need to work on it)lol and smooth the frosting with hot water. I had some crumbs, but my family loved it. Practice, Practice, Practice. Now all I need to do is not eat all my cakes I make. icon_surprised.gif I LOVE CAKE! I forgot pics icon_cry.gif

Any suggestions on smoothing and technique? I am practicing today the shell border on my board.

Also anyone have a sample of an Hawaiian Cake? I am going to attempt to create one this week for my daughters birthday.

Thanks
Michelle

Here's a very simple "beach" scene, can be doubled as a Hawaiian scene. The sand is "brownulated" brown sugar. Can also use crushed graham crackers. The water is piping gel. Some cake supply stores sell hula dancers for the top of the cake.

Welcome! As you read here, you will find several techniques for smoothing icing. Just search for viva method. Which is smoothing crusting buttercream with a viva paper towel (viva because it has no pattern in it) and there is also a great tutorial in the articles for the melvira method. Lots of great info here.
