I've Got The Knockback Guilts!

I had to knock back an order for next week, and I just can't stop thinking about it!
I mean, I just don't know how I could squeeze it in because I already have 3 cakes due next week, and my parents flying back in after an african holiday and my two toddlers who need SOME attention .(especially after this week which was hectic due to a charity event I provided cakes for) but I feel really guilty for saying no to them!!
It was bound to happen sometime I guess, but I keep thinking about taking it, but then I look silly because I have already said no, and my kids would get no time with me if I did it!
ooooh I shud get a boxing glove and beat myself up some more with it huh?
Maybe it's time to crack open the Maxibon icecream, or two or three! ![]()
Do you all get the guilts too? I mean I guess we are only human, even if we all
have cake superpowers!
I used to feel like that! Now I just refer them to "dky", she only lives about half an hour away from me!
Maybe you could find another CC member that lives close to you and send the person onto them!
Then you get to help two people and the guilt is gone!!!

I had to turn someone down this week too but it was going to be impossible for me to fill her order and give her quality work. This week has been crazy plus I had somewhere I had to be with my husband all yesterday afternoon so my production time was limited. I felt bad as well but we are only human.
You have to remember, we can only do so much ourselves. And I try to tell my customers, the first to book with a deposit, gets me! But I am already breaking my own rule. Next weekend, I have 2 wedding cakes. i don't like to do more than one a weekend. Then in June, I ended up taking 3 in one weekend. I couldn't say no!!!
I look at it a little bit different.......I think it's wonderful that you are so in demand that you can't fill all requests! ![]()
You did the right thing...better not take so many orders that you can't deliver the quality and workmanship your clients have come to expect. You don't want to burn yourself out either--or lose out sharing special moments with your family and friends!!!!!!!

I really know how you feel. After working 2 part-time jobs and doing cakes "on the side" I sometimes feel guilty too. But you can only do so much. I agree too, that it's quality, not quanity that counts. Spend some time with your kids, relax for once and enjoy yourself. Don't feel guilty, you are obviously in demand!! ![]()
You know I told my husband that I knocked one back and he was horrified (it is my first "no") and he convinced me to get grandparent babysitting for my toddlers and take the order.
So I rang the customer back to told them I would do it. (felt like a real goose.. first I say no then I say yes! oh well)
The fun thing about it is, my hubby will now probably miss out on a cake, as I am unlikely to get time to do his birthday cake for this week now too!! ![]()
Serves him right for pushing me, that's what I get for marrying an accountant! ![]()

Thanks to all for your encouragement, I was having such bad guilts about it all that even my dreams were affected, last night I dreamt that everytime I did a fondant bow, it broke and I had to remake it.. repeatedly.... I think I live and breathe cakes sometimes!!
