I'm covering a 3 layer 12" a 3 layer 9" and a 3 layer 6" and need some left over to make decorations.

Also does a 12" round really serve 50. I have to make a cake for a baby shower with about 30 people. I want to make sure there is enough. This is the first time I'm making a cake and selling it. I would also like there to be some left so the mommy-to-be can take some home for daddy-to-be.

I'm guessing you'll need around 3 to 4 batches of MMF. I may be wrong but it's always safe to have more MMF than what you actually need. HTH.

I don't think a 12 inch 3 layer will feed 50. I recently did a 12 inch 4 layers and planned on it serving 35-40 which it did with just a little bit left. Now I may cut my slices slightly bigger, but I try to keep them 1 inch wide and about 3-4 inches long.
