I'm doing a tulip cake for the garden club. They're having a going away party for a member. Anyway, I'm stuck. I think I did the little groupings of tulips to semetrical (my OCD coming out icon_razz.gif )

What do I need to add? Should I go over the writing with something darker maybe? I have all morning tomorrow to work on it if I have to but I just think it looks like it's missing something right now...

Any ideas?

It is delicate and lovely, perfect for Gardeners! I wouldn't obsess over it too much. I obsessed over a cookie cake today that I made and it ruined the rest of my day. You don't need to change a thing! Great job! thumbs_up.gif

The only thing I can think of is the name of the member going away. The cake looks great as is!

I think if you start adding more to it, it will be too busy. It's a Beautiful cake!

yeah, the lady didn't want to put the person's name because the party was maybe for two people but she wasn't sure.

Thanks for the replies guysicon_smile.gif Maybe I should leave well enough alone...don't want it to get all cluttery either.

It's beautiful - great job on the flowers! Don't worry - they're going to love it!

I would add just a tiny bit of grass (same color as the side border) around the flowers if I was going to add anything. It looks very pretty!!

It's very pretty. May I ask how you made the tulips?

IMO There is too much going on on one side, and too little on the other, you can balance this by adding scattered single flowers to the the corner underneath the writing, that still too white. Your flowers look so cute, take a closer photo so we can see them, please.

yeah, I was thinking maybe I should do something like that but wasn't sure if it might busy it up too much.

I'll take more pics when I'm doneicon_smile.gif The tulips are just a 5petaled flower formed over the end of one of those little sticks that come with the flower seticon_smile.gif

ok, I added some more tulips under the writing part and to the top left and lower right corners for flow. I also put a few more in the groupings to the left so it's not so symmetric looking. I used mostly white for that part so it wouldn't be too busy.

anyway, here's the new picicon_smile.gif

The cake looks great! The tulips look like you used a 5 petal cutter and folded them up around a little ball of fondant. Is that correct?

yes and no. I did use the 5 petal cutter but just formed them around a dowel and then slipped them off. They kept their shape because they were so smallicon_smile.gif
