I had posted a question earlier this morning, about doing piping royal icing onto buttercream... The reason being, is I had a cake iced in bc and needed to pipe scrolls on it, and paint them gold w/ luster dust... Well, I wasn't sold on the idea of using royal on buttercream, so I painted the luster dust (mixed w/lemon extract) right on the buttercream - and it worked! I actually had fun doing it. Just thought I'd pass that on, if you hadn't tried it already.

Very beautiful. How long did you wait before you actually painted on the buttercream. I tried it once with diasterous results. Scraped the icing off and started over with a diffrent design.

I waited quite a bit... an hour or two. Used a long soft brush, it wasn't difficult at all.

Do you use any butter in your buttercream? I tried this, and wonder if my problem was the butter in the buttercream.

Beautiful! I have done this before and found out the hard way that you have to definitely have a crusting buttercream and a VERY VERY soft brush.

I am definitely saving this one as something to do, you're scrolls are great with the different size strokes

AWESOME CAKE it almost looks too smooth to be buttercream. Excellent painting...I never knew you could paint a design on buttercream. I always thought the butter cream would break down. thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif
