I have an order for 6 dozen cupcakes due tomorrow for a church picnic. My customer wants either angels, a cross, or something related to picnic on the cupcakes. Does anyone know what I could do? I couldn't find any edible cake decorations with angels or a cross. I didn't find any mini cookie cutters in those shapes either. What can I do?

There are chocolate molds for crosses. They are supposed to be for suckers, but I fill them and use w/o stick. They would fit on top of a cupcake. Not sure where you would get them. I got mine at local bake shop.

That's a great idea but how long will it take to melt and mold chocolate crosses?

must they be individual cupcakes or could you make a cupcake cake?

if you can make a cupcake cake, you can arrange the cupcakes in the shape of a cross or an angel and frost away.

for individual: could simply ice each smooth and then pipe a cross on top, say using a #4 round. for added effect put 3 touching dots of icing at each end of cross arms.

I buy chocolate molds in ACmoore or michaels. they should have them out now since it's communion & confirmation season. at least where i live!!
I did see a few molds recently in both stores. The chocolate takes jsut a few minutes to makes. I usually microwave the chocolate melts, pour them into the mold. fridge or freezer for 5-10 minutes. then start all over again. the good thing is being able to make a bunch, put them in a tray and leave them in the fridge til you are ready to put them on top of a cupcake.
good luck! - show us pics when they are done.

The customer asked for individual cupcakes. A cupcake cake would have been much more easier.

then I'd definately go w/ smoothed iced top and a cross piped on top.
Having done small chocolates for a cake once, the cross will be much faster (and less expensive -- remember your profit!), esp. since you have to do 72 cupcakes.

for an added touch, the icing could be in the "colors" of the church -- aka the colors of the choir robes (at my old church that would have been maroon and gold)

You could also press fondant in the molds. They just pop right out and there you be!
