I can't help you w/ the fondant, but I can tell you what I do. I take a mini reese peanut butter cup and turn it upside down and put a keeble chocolate covered graham cracker on top and then pipe a yellow tassel.

Thanks Kim, but I'm looking for something a little bigger... something that will fit on a 6 or 8 inch cake top.

use a jumbo muffin, cut off the top and flip it upside down, cover with fondant, then cut a square of fondant for the mortor board and attach to the cup cake. I use a garlic press to make the tassle, i just place a piece of fondant in and press out the tassel, if you need a longer tassel, stop the press before you get to the end of the fondant and place more in.

I am making one this weekend by using 1/2 the sport ball and cutting a small piece off the top then covering a cardboard square and putting it on top of the ball. The garlic press for the tassel is an awesome idea I had planned on buying a playdou thing to do it with.

Thanks so much...I am making the cap as a 6" square on a 10" square cake. so I will just make a round circle for the bottom of the cap in fondant....roll long rectangle flat and wrap it around an oatmeal container.

I wasn't sure how to make the tassle....I hadn't thought of the garlic press...I will try that. I used to have a playdough press thingy...but I gave it away....dumb me!!! icon_redface.gif

I will post the cake when I am done....on this thread and on the site.

Thanks so much!!!! again!
