icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif I ran out of Viva paper towels and do not have time to go out and buy some. What else can I use to smooth my cake? I have tried running my spatula under hot water, but the cake is still not smooth enough.
Any ideas!

THANKS!

Once the frosting crusts you can also use wax paper. I have used it in a pinch.

I use regular 8.5 by 11 printing paper, works good.

if you have any other paper towels try using the unpatterned side. You can use computer paper too. you could also try the hot spatula but you have to be careful. I also use a spray mister and then run the spatula over it. But by the time you try all these things and then get freaked if it doesn't work. It's probably worth it to just go get the Viva. Unless it is far away.

Yes, waxed paper does work in a pinch. You have to go over it really gently. Make sure it doesn't wrinkle.

ran out of viva one time too so I experimented with computer paper and notebook paper -

My favorite - of course - is the Viva, but, notebook paper was my second favorite - it was thinner than computer paper so the edges were easier to smooth - for me anyway.

The computer paper worked well too - in a pinch.

I'm by no means a pro at this, but I did once use a pillow case with some success. I've also used just a piece of white fabric. I'm still trying to get the smoothing thing down. I think I'll try the paper method next time around. icon_wink.gif
