That's IT.. I'm done being nice. UGH! I'm sooo mad!!!
This is what happened.
I was asked to make a cake for my ex-husband's 2yr old son. NP as my son is really close to him and I like the ex's girlfriend alot. So I was really excited to show off my cake talents.
Well.... I was up until midnight on Wednesday doing the cake, I had to get up for work the next morning and then the ex was going to pick up my son and the cake on thursday after school.. Everything went as planned and I had to pick up my son from his house later in the evening.

SO I go and pick up my son and of course asked how the cake was. (now mind you the girlfriend said to make whatever I wanted. If there was a new recipe I wanted to try, go ahead and do it, It was up to me) What I ended up making was a french vanilla cake and lemon lime soda. It's a little different but is very good (fyi... it's a snot to cover) Anyway, I pick up my son and the first thing out of their mouths was.. "UCK that was an awful cake, none of us liked it. It was too spongy. WHAT??? then she preceeds to tell me that I didn't cook it long enough and that's probably why it was awful. CAN YOU BELIEVE THESE PEOPLE????? OMG I saw RED! icon_mad.gif First of all I took a sample to work and the people here couldn't get enough of it, second of all she TOLD me to try something new. So how would she know if it was undercooked if she's NEVER had it before??????? AND in all of the year's I've been baking... NOONE has EVER complained about my cakes being too spongy. Isn't that what they are supposed to be???? icon_confused.gif HELLO!!! AND the funny thing is......they got it for free..... NOW most people would be grateful for a homebaked cake even if it did taste like crap, but honestly not to blow my own whistle, but MY cakes taste awesome!!!! HOW RUDE!!!!!!! I can tell you it'll never happen again icon_cry.gif I'm more mad at myself than anything as i'm always trying to help people. I'M DONE!!

thanks everyone.. I had to vent!

Uumm.....wow....uuhh...wow....sorry but that is all I can say right now. I actually read your post twice because I thought surely I didn't read that right. People never cease to amaze me with their insensitivity and just plain rudeness! I am so sorry that something like this happened but atleast this lets you know that they no longer get free cake!

you know what happened, don't you...it was probably really good and the girlfriend didn't want to be shown up by your skills so she ragged on the cake.

I bet it was great but since she complained about it, the kids picked up on it and copied her. I know my ex-husband's wife never misses a chance to bad mouth everything I do, no matter what it is.

Don't stress--consider the source and don't EVER offer them anything for free again!!

I feel your pain!! I made a cake not too long ago and the lady told me that it was too dense and FOAMY!!! What is foamy?? On top of that she said someone told her the cake was burnt!! NO WAY!!!
Anyway, she still wanted me to make another cake. I politely turned her down. I don't need that kind of aggrevation. Sorry you had that experience. I certainly can relate. Just take it with a grain of salt. You KNOW the cake was good. Some people are never satisified.

Seems funny the same cake went over soooooooo well at work and for some reason just turned awful when it made it through her doorway----carma???haha? sorry-had to try to make you smile a bit-especially since you said you liked her-but I do agree with bookbake above-some people think that sometimes the only way to make ourselves look good is to make someone else look bad-I know you are fuming and your feelings are probably so hurt-but (easier said than done I know)-swallow it, keep on trucking and point them to the nearest supermarket bakery the next time they want cake for anything!

sorry this happened to you daisy - people can be so unbelievable. you seem like a very nice person and obviously you are to do a cake for free. I sincerely hope you have a wonderful day and at least you can rest easy knowing that you did great work and displayed an amazing cake. icon_smile.gifthumbs_up.gif

How nice of you to do someone a favor like that and then get kicked in return. Some people have no manners! Even if she really didn't like it, she should have kept her mouth shut and said something polite if anything. You were being generous with your time and effort and that deserves praise in itself! I would never make her a cake again.

I got "hired" by DH's unit to make a cake once and never got paid for it or even thanked and that was with one day's notice. I had baked for them before and got paid. -- Needless to say, I turned down all requests after that.

WOW I am so sorry that happened to you. Sounds to me she was just jealous of your talent. I can't imagine how it could be so bad if your co-workers loved it.

Cindy....How on earth can one cake be to dense, foamy and burnt...WOW that must of been some cake.. I think that lady was on something.

it gets better, It was such a "bad" cake that their son ate the WHOLE thing. (now my opinion would be not to give a 2yr old that much cake. but whatever!) The ex said that they had to make another one cause the boy ate the first one and wanted more.

Yea, I'm a sucker can't help it. My bf tells me that all of the time. But If I only make one person light up w/delight at something I've done for them, then all of the mean people go away for awhile.

Oh yeah, she loved it. She probably hated that her son ate it up and was gaa-gaa over it so she had to tear it apart. Fret none.

'Too spongy'?! That's a RIOT. Doesn't she know spongy is the sing of a good cake- and that dry tasteless mess from the supermarket bakery could NEVER compare? She tried to ragg on you but ended up complimenting you instead. Truly, she's a women who knows her cakes. icon_rolleyes.gificon_mad.gif
