WOW!!! Love the site already just discovered it. I have been doing cakes for a while, can't beleive I haven't been on this site before. I am self taught, however I am wanted to take those Wilton Classes at the craft stores what do you think? I want to have a paper saying I am good, for my own sake I guess. I am thankful for this forum is giving me alot of ideas and advice for future cakes. My "cake business" is taking off alot this year I need to to face my fears of Fondant!!!

Go for it. The classes are not expensive and you should have most of the supplies.

I had decorated cakes for quite a few years as well until I finally took the time to take all 4 Wilton courses and am sooo glad I did. It opened up so many things I thought I knew but didn't. I learnt alot of different techniques and am not scared to use fondant anymore either. I quite like using fondant, you can do so so much more with it. You should take them, they are alot of fun. Brought my passion back that was lacking for a few years. icon_biggrin.gif

Hey I just found this site too while in the wilton forums! I am extremely impressed! I need all the help and tips I can get as I am in the process of starting up a bakery/cafe and trying to decorate cakes in the process. I just finished the 3 wilton courses which helped tremendously!!

Welcome to this site. The classes will only improve things that maybe you are not so good at. But have a good time there and like someone said you will have alot of the supplies. That will save you money.

Once you have the classes it will make things you read on here a lot clearer.

I learned a lot from Wilton but since learned more on CC.

CC is a big support, they make you feel confident and you will realize the mistakes you make we all have made or will make.

Three things that was important for me to learn:

Add an avatar so we can all get to know you by seeing it.

Be sure to add to your forum info to recieve comments on your cakes.

If you write a thread you will have to go back into it and click "watch this topic for replies"

Go to this page it will answer a lot of questions

Welcome!

Yes, I agree. Take the classes if you are able to; every little bit of info helps.

Welcome! Learn where and whenever you can. Classes are great and also doing a lot of asking here on CC is really good too! thumbs_up.gif

I'm fairly new to this site myself. I have taken Wilton classes I and II. Next Monday my fondant and gum paste class starts. I can hardly wait! I am enjoying the classes.

I will have to get a car before I can take Class III, the tiered cakes. I am sure it will be impossible to transport the supplies for that one on the bus.

Definately take the classes. Before the classes, I wasn't even able to ice a cake, let alone decorate it!
