I just got a call from a lady who wants a surfing cake. I have no idea what to do...

She wants is kinds 3-D with the wave going over a surfer...

Will fondant do that? How about sugar paste? I am stumped! icon_cry.gif

Hey....

So this cake that I did below might give you some ideas.
I did this for a get together of people who are surfers and beach bums. ( I live in San Diego).
I actually has a surfboard made out of fondant that was leaning against one of the palm trees, but of course forgot to put it on in this exact picture! But anyhow, I wrote on the surfboard the name of the group of people (which was my church) with an edible marker...
This was one of my favorite cakes I have done. It was fun,fun,fun...
Hope this helps!

What if you made the whole top of the cake like water like drurys' cake has or with blue gel icing. Then out of blue gumpaste take a wide strip, you can make a slope up and curl over like a wave. After it's dry, fill in the gap between the cake and slope with icing/gel and cover the gumpaste with icing/gel. Then underneath the curve you can have the surfer (probably out of gumpaste) or plastic figure. I hope this make sometype sense. If not let me know, and I'll try to explain a little better.

here's the webpage that I found useful when thinking about the idea http://www.magyarnyomdasz.hu/letoltes/pic/passion_for_print_surfer_1024x768_eng.jpg

Here is one with a Wave carved out of cake I made 2 yrs ago. Had to cut out the lady in the pic, cause she was nude. Basically I have a bread pan, that bakes a round bread , got that one from a Norwegian friend some yrs back. It's like a loaf pan, but 3D

In theory you could bake several smaller rounds, stack them side by side and carve them. You would need to dowel them properly though, both sideways and into the bottom layer cake. It was rather fun to make, thanks for your comment.
