Okay so I am faced with a delima here. I just tried a new marble cake recipe and everything turned out fine and I went to the gym while it cooled but forgot to cover it. Now the outside of the cake is dry and kind of rough like sand paper. Do you know what I am talking about? I hope so.

Is there anything that I can brush or spray on the cake to help put moisture back in it that won't affect the cake too much!!!!!!!

You can trim off the crusty parts. Freeze the cake first, and then use a serrated knife (the longer the better) and trim off any dry crusty parts. If you don't want to do that make a concoction of simple syrup which is two parts sugar to one part water (boil it til the sugar is dissolved and let cool) then brush that on the cake. If it's a chocolate cake use coffee instead of water.

Simple syrup - sugar and water like chaptlps said, that should work fine. The frosting will add a bit of moisture back as well. Don't worry icon_smile.gif

simple syrup is your best bet, you can also add flavoring to your syrup. just brush on cake, wrap in saran wrap and chill. It works and doesn't change the cake other than to make it moist.

I agree with chaptlps spritz with simple syrup. I like to add a little bit of lemon to mine.

THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

Simple syrup it is! I'm going to brush it on. I actually have a concentrated coffee I make with my Toddy Coffee Maker. Do you think that will work if I maybe do half of the concentrate and half water?
