this is an excellent one for making a face. there is one by boonati also on how to make fondant figures. I don't have that thread, but will look.

if you go to michaels craft store (or hobby lobby etc) look in the polymer clay department. there are excellent clay modeling instruction books for around 10 dollars. same principles apply to fondant figures, only the books are much cheaper!

Thank you ... are there any particular tools or fondants etc that you have used either successfully or not?

i use satin ice, but dont do alot of figure modeling. i seem to hear quite often that using wiltons fondant for figures works good - but i would ONLY suggest that if you know they will not be eaten. bleck! if you want something that tastes GREAT, use satin ice. www.intotheoven.com low price, fast and low shipping.

you could also consider using half fondant, half gumpaste or to add tylose powder to your fondant. i have NOT done this but it has been suggested to me a few times. i am just not big on modeling-
