So If you had only 5 pans which ones would they be?
I have a 6" and 9" round ones and a loaf pan (and some character ones, which I'm not counting because they are really one-use things)

Would you get squares? Bigger rectangulars? Bigger rounds? Wonder mold? Ball pans?

I have the 6 and 9 rounds; 10 and 6 squares; and 9x13

I find that I can do a lot with this set in combinations.

I also have the ball and mini ball pans, which I am finding many uses for - particularly the minis.

I have the 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 inch pans- probably the most used. Then I have a 9x13, 2-11x15's, and a zillion character pans. I think if I were forced to get rid of any, it would be all but the round pans- I rarely use the others.

I have a 6,8,9,10,14 rounds 8 square, 9x13 rectangle. I use my 6,9 rounds and my 8 square the most. With the 8 square I make it two different flavors and put them together for alot of cakes. This gives the customer two flavors of cake usually chocolate and French Vanilla.

I only have the 6,8,10" round, a 9x13 and 11x15. I just add the 6,10,12,14" hearts, they were a bargain at a garage sale for only $8 for all of them!!! I am wanting to add the square pans.

I personally only own 1 pan and it's a character pan, I always borrow my mom's pans (she has like 30) but we have made a deal that I won't buy any she already has and once I get some pans she won't buy any that I have and we can just borrow each others. BUT I want to get the ball pan and the mini ball pan and the mini wondermold pan. Then I want the deeper circle and square pans. All of my mom's pans are so old and it was before they did 3" deep which I like better so I want to get those but that's after the others I want. sorry I rambled

I personally prefer a 7 or 8 inch round over the 6 inch round, they are easier for me to ice. I find that the 6 inch slides all over the board. I would say a 7 or 8 inch round and 12 inch round as you could make 2 tiered cakes nicely with those. I also like the 11x15 and the 12x18. I very rarely make a 9x13. The 11x15 is what I use most I would say. I just purchased a 14x22 and I love it! It serves 77. I have been using it quite frequently and I just got it a couple of months ago. I have noticed the squares are getting popular for weddings these days. I had over 150 cake pans and have gotten rid of most except the wedding cake sets, round, square, oval, hexagon, and hearts and few pans like the cross, open book, and a few other favs. Those character pans can get out of control and hard to store!!

Hope this helps!!

Right off hand I have the set of oval pans, 4,6,8,10 inch rounds, the set of hearts, 9x13, 11x15 an 8 or 10" square and the one I use to make the dolls skirt. I love the 3" pans. My favorites are the ovals and the rounds. I haven't used the square pan yet. I think I am a bit intimidated by the corners. LOL

Thanks for your replies. I bought the 11x15 today. I'm probably going to get a set of squares or rounds the next time I have a 40% off coupon.

I would have 3 round pans, either the sizes luraleigh suggested or 6, 10, 14; a 10" heart, and an 11 x 15,

I just bought a set of round 2" pans at Hobby Lobby. Which is better to use the 3" pans or the 2" pans like I bought? My reasoning was the 2" pans metal is thinner and would maybe cook faster and more evenly. I have a 6" pan that is 3" and the thicker metal and it takes longer to bake. Any other thoughts on this? I like the heavier pans, but I find that my cakes bake up higher with the 3" sides. I overfill my pans just a little and then I can usually level them right at the top of the pan and get the full height. The crown doesn't go to waste because hubby and I love that part. And if I slap a little bit of icing on it he doesn't crab so much because all my cakes go out the door. LOL I also use a flower nail in my larger cakes to bake evenly thru the middle to the sides. Gives me a much nicer golden side.
