I need to make a "florence Nightingale" lamp for nurse week (next week), I was thinking about a 3D but unsure of where to start..what size cakes to carve from etc...any suggestions?

first one seems to be the "classic" image of the lamp, the second more like a torch.

here's a nursing logo-- it's lamp is similar to classic image.

the drawing shows a variation of the Aladdin style genie lamp -- it's base is more like a flat dish with a round pyramid top and the wick coming out at the top.

the modern logos are all based off the classic genie lamp.

so if want classic -- start w/ OVAL tier for base and carve for gentle upward curve.

then take wonder mold and carve for top pyramid shape. (will have to turn it in to an oval too)

for more of the genie look -- I'd use styrofoam for the bottom part of foot and the little "ring" -- to create a sturdy base

then use 1/2 sports ball carved into matching oval (or stacked oval tiers carved) to build up the bottom)

of course, treat like any tiered cake w/ internal dowels for support and cake board under the top half of the lamp. Then one dowel all the way through to stabilize the whole thing.
