I am so bad at knowing what colors to mix to get the color I want...does anyone else have this problem or am I just stupid??? I need a brick red for a cake this weekend and I really don't know how to get that color....I am thinking red and brown but it looks like it will need something else. Can anyone help me??? PLEASE!

I saw these links the other day about mixing colors:

http://www.mts.net/~evelyns1/colicing.htm

I hope that helps!

If you consistently have problems with color, go to an art supply store and get yourself a color wheel. It will help a lot. There are also mixing guidelines for polymer clay that can be very helpful when mixing icing colors. You can pick out the color you're going for and the chart gives you an approximation of the ratio of one color amount to another.

Colors opposite one another on the color wheel will dull the other color. So, if you've got something that is too intensely orange....add a titch of blue. If the red is too bright, add a bit of green. Yellow can be mellowed with tiny bits of purple. And so on.

For this particular color, if the brown you're using is a golden brown, your final color may be looking a bit too yellow to you. Or maybe it's too garish. You can try dabs of green to bring down the red...or dabs of purple to bring down the yellow tint. Start with just a tiny, tiny bit. It doesn't take a lot.

Hope this helps.
