gumpaste lilacs...

I would love to add these to a shower cake that I am doing in a couple of weeks. Any suggestions??? Thanks in advance!

p.s. Is the embossing done with one of those large mats or with a roller? Anybody have a link for something like that? I've seen similar patterned mats at around $60.00. I hate to spend that much for 1 cake ~ if I thought I would use it a bunch I might consider it.

Here is a suggestion - Wilton has a ejector set - it is Floral Garland Ejector Set and you would have to make a zillion small flowers and then attach them to a oblong fondant roll. I would place a stick in the roll first and sort of point it at the other end and then attach the flowers. All tinted the same color. Or use some sort of foam cone with a thin layer of fondant on it. Good luck

I saw this tutorial for making roral icing hyacinths, the same theory could be applied to gum paste lilacs, just use cutters instead. Hope it helps.

Thanks for your help...

One more thing...I saw the tutorial and can now picture it. Do you think I should add the flowers from the Wilton punch (already have that, great suggestion) and assemble it like the tutorial. Would that look realistic enough????

I could just order some gumpaste lilacs but, I really prefer to make them myself. I have a hard time taking credit for a cake that I didn't make everything on...

TIA

I think that is what I would try to do, but I don't have a ton of experience in gumpaste flowers yet. But the cutter with the ejector set seems like it would be about right. Maybe using a couple slightly different tinted batches of gumpaste would help make them look more realistic, you know, so all the flowers aren't the same color. Good luck!!

I just bought a set of lilac cutters off of Ebay. They weren't expensive either. I have to do a shower cake in June with the lilacs also. I just want about 3 sprays but I think it's going to take a long time to make them. I am going to start making them just as soon as the cutters come in. That wedding cake with the lilacs on Brides.com is amazing. I hope mine come out as nice as theirs.

I must be nuts because that looks like RI piped onto fondant.

I just had a thought I would like to share. I took a nature walk with my family the other day and we stopped to look at lilacs, among other things we noticed that the top flowers of a lilac have 4 petals, but the lower ones have 5....sorry to make it more complicated, but cutting off a petal for the top and smoothing it around to make it look like 4 might make your flower more realistic as well. All depends on how much effort you want to go to .

I think it's piped royal icing too.
