I am getting ready to make a fondant bow and a lot of people have had problem with the broom stick with them breaking. I have read some people lay them on a cookie sheet. Do you stuff the loop with anything? ANd do I need to spray the cookie sheet? Please Help!!

I use cotton in the middle of my bows, and lay them on wax paper.

I use fiber fill (the stuff pillows are made with) under and inside the loops. They dry better if air can get under them.

Chrissy,

I think I'm pretty good with bows. I use cornstarch and kneed it in until it doesn't feel sticky then I use a pasta machine dialed at 7 for the first pass and then at a 4 second pass. I lay it flat and then cut my desired length. Then I gently lay it over a dowel held between two measuring cups. After I drape it I pinch the ends together.

Never once has one broken on me. I think if it did, it might have been too thin for that person or maybe too much gumpaste. Note: At this point, I usually never add gumpaste to my Pettinice.

If you use a cookie sheet you will need a thin spatula or bench knife to move the bow when it tries enough to touch.

PM me if you need more help or a better explaination.

Do you add cornstarch to the ready made fondant or do you make your own like MMF?

I never use MMF because I am not consistent with it, I use ready made fondant called Pettinice. I add the cornstarch directly to the fondant and kneed it in. If I don't use cornstarch, it sticks to the pasta machine. (I think powered sugar would work also.)

If you feel more comfortable using the broom handle for it to dry, you can always try putting a but of crisco on the handle so it won't stick.
The one I made I dried on a broom handle. Some cracked because they were too thin, or because I tried to move them before they were fully dry.
Good luck!
