How does someone determine a serving size? By this I mean that I am always confused about how some cakes seem to serve tons of people. When cutting a serving size (if the cake is a double layer), does that mean you just cut a thinner slice since there are 2 layers involved or are you first cutting pieces from one layer and then the bottom layer.

I'm assuming it's thinner slices (double layered).

Thanks

There are a few cake serving size charts out there-Wilton's, Earlene Moore's (earlene.com). Most reception sites are going to use wilton's serving guide. They consider a party size piece 2x2in and a wedding size serving 1x2in with a 4in high cake. You cut thru all the layers of the cake to get your serving piece. It's important that anyone you give a cake to understands how the cake should be cut so they get enough servings.

indydebi has an example of how she cuts her cakes in her pics on page 2 (I think!). Take a look-gives you a good visual!
