Help Asap...need Serving Info For 2 Cakes!!

Hello all! I have 2 cakes I need # of servings for.
1st cake: single layer 3" deep. 25 adults. 12" or 16" round???
2nd cake: 2 tier double layer, filled. 35 people. 6" and 9" rounds be enough or 8" and 10"???
Is there a REALISTIC "chart" for servings somewhere?? I've seen wilton's and a few others and they always seem to come up short. Also, Since I charge per "serving" (as does everyone else) IS there a 35 person cake? Etc, so you don't underquote your cake? If not, what's the best way to explain that to clients? Just "choice a is this many servings for this price or choice b is...???" Thanks. I just have a (very sweet) lady that said she needs cake based on 35 SERVINGS...so if it's larger to accomodate her needs, she ONLY wants cake for 35. Hope this makes sense. THANKS! ![]()
Both are for "party servings" not wedding BTW. ![]()
for the 1st cake to serve 25 I would say that a 12" should be enough. for the 2nd cake, when I do a tiered cake to serve 30-35 I almost always do a 10" and 6". hope this helps
I have a chart printed out that I got off of a bakery website a long time ago. Can't tell you where I got it, because I don't remember!
Cake #1- A 3" tall 12" round will serve 25 people easily. Party servings even.
Cake #2- Do the 8" and 10" tiers. That will serve 30-34 people on my chart.
Here's the chart:
6" round 4-6 servings
7" round 6-8 servings
8" round 8-12 servings
10" round 16-22 servings
12" round 20-28 servings
14" round 40-54 servings
16" round 60-75 servings
18" 70-100 servings
A 10 inch tier serves 30 accoring to Earlene (www.earlenescakes.com)and I have found that her servings are HUGE compared to most. I get 36 servings out of a 10 inch tier. So a 6/10 for your tier cakes should be perfect, providing slightly more than they need and allowing the top tier to be saved, if desired.
As for the single layer to serve 25, a 12 inch is perfect. A 2 layer serves 54 (45 according to Earlene), so a single layer would serve 23-27, depending on if you go by her calculations or mine. Either way, it sounds right on target.
According to the wilton chart a 10" feeds 28, 12" feeds 40 and a 16' feeds 70ppl. If you feel like they are always short then I would use the 12". The 12" uses 10 1/2 cups of batter that should be enough to feed 25 ppl.
As for the 2nd cake if you go by Earlenes chart says a 8" & 10" (2"deep)double layer feeds 35. That has to be moderate slices since wilton says it feeds 62. So, If I was you I wound go with the 6' & 9". I am sure you are more confused than ever.
Thanks everyone! I just knew I could count on you! ![]()
