My understanding is that unless it says "unsalted" on the packaging, it IS salted.

A good way to tell is if you open the package (go ahead, noone's looking) if the butter is wrapped in paper, its salted. If its wrapped in foil its unsalted. The salt preserves the butter so unsalted has to be wrapped in the foil to preserve it. (Thanks Alton Brown!)

Yes, Wal-MArt brand wraps in the same paper for both kinds also....
