I have a cake order and the child wants a 3-D race car that looks like Jeff Gordon. The cake kits no longer have Jeff Gordan, can't even get one off ebay. The only Jeff Gordan I found on here is carved...not sure I am up for that. Any suggestions, pictures, etc. I will take any advice I can get. I would hate to disappoint him, and just do a BCT of his car, but will if I have to, and mother is fine with that. Last year he had the Wilton Race Car pan, so been there done that one already. Please help! ![]()
To make matters worse that weekend...I have 2 other cakes to do as well...so not looking for overly complicated! Thanks in advance!
I did a Jeff Gordon car cake recently. It was a carved cake, but it was not as hard as I thought that it would be. I stacked two 1/4 sheets cakes and had a toy race car to look at while I carved off cake and shaped it. I then put a crumb coat on and let it dry. Then decorated with frosting. It only appears overwhelming at first but once you get on a roll you will be done in no time. I carved, and frost ine one evening.
Good luck!
If you've got time, Sportcakes still has their car kits on sale for $20. You could save the decals and use them another time and just do this one in icing. Looks like Jeff Gordon's car isn't all that complicated. Ice the front in red and the back in blue, with flames making the transition between the two colors. You could do 3 FBCTs of his number...one each for the door and one for the roof - and another FBCT for the Dupont logo and call it done. What little boy wouldn't be thrilled with that?
Sportcakes delivers pretty fast. If it's next weekend, you'd have time.
