Hello,
I have never posted here so bear with me! I have had trouble with my frosting not crusting well enough to smooth and decorate. I use a all shortening icing that my aunt gave me and her cakes are perfect! By the time I am done decorating the frosting comes out of the bag looking frothy! I tried not whipping it as long as I usually do, after the crisco is added, could that be the problem. Maybe too much whipped air in the frosting??
Or am I just too impatient??? I tend to wait only 15 minutes or so.....

Thanks for any help!

I usually wait 30 minutes or so. It depends on weather and such, but usually 30 minutes does it. You may want to add some sort of crusting agent if it doesn't crust in 30 minutes.

15 min should give you a nice crust. Depending on the recipe you may have to wait a little longer. Do you add the crisco last? I usually cream my crisco by itself first then add the liquids then add the dry ingredients. Maybe someone will have some suggestions for you.

I use the basic wilton bc recipe, and put my cakes in the fridge to crust. Usually crusts in about 15 minutes.

My cakes take about 15 minutes to crust. I mix the Crisco with the water and flovorings first then add the powdered sugar and merigue powder. If your icing doesn't crust you might want to use a little bit of merigue powder in your frosting.

My suggestion is to cream your shortening with the flavoring in the recipe for at least 15 minutes before adding any other items.
