Is there a magic tool to get batter neatly into the cupcake tins? Will a turkey baster work?

I am making cupcakes three days in a row for DD's drama class end-of-year play rehersals. After tomorrow I will have baked 12 dozen cupcakes. I have batter everywhere...usually I just grab a small measuring cup, but that is messy.

Here is what I did today...kind of sloppy...I had a crying, teething baby strapped to my front for most of it. Oh well. Not sure if I like the leaves or grass better...

aw...those are so cute...and so nice of you to make.

Trust me...as a teacher of HS drama for 25+ years...the kids will love them...and (the boys' esp.) be so busy eating to not really even notice any mistakes you may see. They'll be so grateful someone did something so nice for them.

"Break a Leg!" kids!

As far as getting the batter into the paper cups, I bought a scoop from Pampered chef. It has a spring type thing that scrapes the batter out of the scoop. Perfect size...kinda like the older ice cream scoops. Works really well.

i use the large scoop from pampered chef also it gives me perfect size cupcakes. However someone suggested in another post today to use their decorating bags to fill a checker board pan. I am sure this would work just as well for cupcakes. If you don't have a large cookie scoop maybe a large ice cream scoop?

Decorating bags! DUH! icon_smile.gif

I have the papmered chef larger cookie scoop...is that the same size, or is there one the size of an ice cream scoop?

I am going to try the bags next time (as in, for the dozens I have to bake for the 8th grade graduation party, and the last day of preschool, and the last day of third grade...)

there are only 3 sizes of pampered chef cookie scoops. If i remember correctly when i measured out the large one it was about 3 T of water.

ok, it was bothering me so i went and measured and the large scoop holds just about 3 T of water (just a tad under) So if you want to check your measurements this way icon_smile.gif

I use a small ladle, like the ones at salad bars, only a little bigger. Works for me!

I like the decorator bag idea. Just cut a bigger hole in the end of it. if ya don't want batter flowing all over the place when you are done with one pan then you could use one of those wooden or plastic clothes pins to pinch it off.

I have all three sizes of the pampered chef scoops, and the largest one is what I use for cupcakes and muffins. It makes perfect, even, consistent cupcakes every time, and I don't drip batter all over the pan either! I hate it when the batter gets on the outside of the paper and then the whole thing sticks to the pan.

You might be able to find one the same size at a local store, if you don't have time to order one of theirs.

Good luck!
Laura.
