I've got my cake ready for tomorrows Course 2 final...I tried practicing the basketweave on it (actually, more or less just wanted to A. Practice, B. make sure my crumb coat didn't show through too much, C. get a head start because my cake seems rather 'high'...) but it just seemed really really sloppy. I think this is the hardest thing we've done so far. Colour flow seemed easier and I didn't even like doing it. Is there a trick to the basketweave so that it doesn't look so sloppy? I had absolutely no problem with the pattern. It went well. But what I did have a problem with was that when I did my next weave, it would touch the one above it and kind of 'snag' it alittle bit from the one above it. It really ticked me off. I decided to smooth it all out (really felt uncomfortable with the crumb coat...I was thinking that my cake might dry out because the crumb coat was so thin) and wait for tomorrow.Any suggestions as to how to improve it?

I find being eye level with the cake makes it easier for me. HTH
