I just got an order for a barbie cake. I'm new to this and only decorate for friends and family. Do I have to go out and buy the proper cake pan? She wants the stand up barbie cake. I only have the character pan for barbie. I have made the small doll cakes before. Is there anything I need to know before making the large doll cake?

Hi just did a Dancing Barbie and I have a Barbie and Bratz in my photos. It is super easy to do don't worry. I went out and bought the Wonder Mold (make sure you have a coupon). That will give you the form of the dress.

If you have a Pyrex bowl you can cook your cake in that and build it up around her hips wtih other cake. It saves buying a pan you may not use again.

Hello,
I just recently made my first Barbie cake. Had the Wonder mold that someone gave to me but it didn't have the heating core so had to use a flower nail that wasn't long enough. The cake took a long time to finally finish baking. However, a tip would be to also make an 8" layer to go under the molded cake as the Barbie doll was much taller so I needed the added layer to bring the skirt up to the waist. It really wasn't difficult. Once you get the layers together you can ice and decorate as you want. It took just a couple of hours to finish once I got going. Good luck and please post pics of your masterpiece!!!

No, you don't have to go out and buy the pan. The stand up doll pan can be done beautifully with round cake layers...filled, stacked, frozen slightly then carved.
I prefer the round cakes and carving method. I can get a longer dress with only one round of baking. The Wonder Mold alone is too squatty looking. If you choose to stack it on other layers, it's best to cook the layers and the mold separately. That, to me, would be two rounds of baking.

An angel food cake works good too....turn it top side down and trim a littlle to shape the skirt a little, you can stuff the hole with the extra cake to hold the doll or half doll.
