Wedding Vs. Party Servings...are Yours Different?

I was just wondering what all of you do for your tiered cakes. Are your servings different for a party cake or wedding cake (like in the wilton book) or do you just go by a standard for all tiered cake no matter the occasion. Do you charge differently for each?
I use the Wilton chart for estimates of servings and I round to the lower "5". If WIlton chart says "38 servings", then I charge them for a 35 serving cake, and tell them "25-35, depending on how you cut it".
For my wedding cakes, I'm always there to cut it, so I know it's being cut properly.
So do you charge diffrently for wedding servings than party cake servings or do they all cost the same?
I use the Wilton wedding chart as the guide. They are welcome to cut the pieces as big or small as they want. I'm not going to try to keep 2 different prices straight and I'm not going to explain why a 10" round for a small wedding is one price but a 10" round for a birthday party is another price. All you do is invite them to call a wedding cake a birthday cake or to call a birthday cake a wedding cake .... whichever is more cost effective for them.
So I don't care what you call it, you're getting the same cake at one price .... here's the number of servings you can get out it .... cut it anyway you want.
I'm not going to explain why a 10" round for a small wedding is one price but a 10" round for a birthday party is another price.
That's the problem I was thinking about. Thanks so much for your help. You always have some great insights!
I charge the same by the serving for all tiered cakes, but I do run off of 2 charts... my wedding serving is 8cubic inches and my party serving is 12. For single tier party cakes, I just have a straight up price list. I have yet to have someone question it, but I am waiting for that day, I suppose![]()
I don't size or price differently for weddings versus other events. It's sort of a selling point because people know I don't gouge them because "it's a wedding cake".. It's the same amount of work for the style of cake I do regardless of if it's for a wedding or a party, so why should I charge differently.
My average slice runs 1x3x5, so it's a realistic size slice. I found even the party slice charts for Wilton to be off and I know there are far worse sizing charts out there than even Wilton's... It's a lot of math, but I'd rather go with what I know works for me than to pawn something off that I know is unrealistic.
