Have any of you ever broken a toe? I broke my right pinky toe Thursday night....snapped the toe and it was sticking out at a 90 degree angle. YUCK! Went to ER they confirmed it was broken.. I thought they would do nothing but buddy tape it because that's all Ive ever heard could be done for a broken toe...Doc looks at x-ray and tells me he advices surgery to put a pin in because of the severity of the break. He said if I don't have the surgery the toe would still heal but since it broke at the base joint and was at the 90 degree angle it would heal severely crooked (sticking out) and that would cause more problems in the long run so I'm having surgery to have a pin put in Wend. Thing is I was asked by SIL to make my nephews 1st birthday cake this coming weekend...(Friday which is 2 days after having the pin put in) Im thinking I'll be A-Ok but hubby keeps telling me Id better call & tell her I can't do the cake now....has anyone here ever had a broken toe and had to have a pin put in? How did it feel 2 days later? Were you able to stand long? I was thinking maybe I could bend my leg at the knee back and prop the foot up on a stool while I did the cake. LOL
Yep, I've done it too. My front door stuck when I was opening it, I gave it a good kick and broke my big toe. Same thing, nothing to do but tape it to it's buddy toe. It hurts so bad you want to jump up and down and cry. My toe doesn't bend completely now either and I have to be careful what type of shoe I wear so it doesn't put too much pressure on that toe, and that was at least 12 years ago I did that.

I have not had foot or toe surgery but both my niece and my daughter have and they both said it was the most painful recovery. And my daughter has been through chemo and radiation too, so you know this really must have been painful. I too think you should cancel the cake. Standing on your feet to complete it is going to put pressure on your foot. I have a feeling your doctor is going to tell you to keep it elevated and stay off it.
I didn't break any toes but I did have foot surgery a few years ago. While I was off work on medical leave, I agreed to teach a co-workers 10 year old how to decorate cakes for her 4-H project. I sat on one stool and propped my foot up on another stool in the kitchen. It was way more tiring than I thought it would be, and looking back, I don't think it would have been a good idea for me to do any "real"cakes during that time.
I'd cancel if you can. You're having surgery .... they should understand.
Hmm never had to do cake decorating. I do have an interesting story, I broke my toe with a sweet potato pie in a glass baking dish. I had baked them at mom's house, she brought them over the next day... and in the rush to put them away I dropped the slippery bugger.
Toe was broke, pie was unharmed, and the next day (turkey day) I ate a huge slice with whipped cream! ![]()
