My sister would like me to make my nephew's birthday cake. My nephew LOVES to surf. His life's dream would be to go to the university of Hawaii after he graduates from high school. Can anyone give me some ideas for a cake that would that would not look too feminine. I looked in the gallery and saw some beautiful hibiscus, some were royal icing and some were gumpaste but I have no idea how to do either. All I have as far as gumpaste tools are the ones that come in the wilton kit. So if anyone knows how to do hibiscus or has any other creative ideas for a 16 year old boy's hawaiian themed birthday cake......Lay them on me. Thanks in advance for any help!

how about a surfing cake...if you search galleries using "surf" there are several nice ones

or how about a cake shaped like a shirt (either the T-shirt pan or a carved sheet cake) then iced to look like a Hawiian shirt. could add a lie of flowers and maybe even U of H logo.

The instructions for RI hibiscus is very similar to any other RI flower using the 104 tip; just doing the center different.

I just did one similar to a Hawaiian theme, it was for a girl though. It is a combination of an edible image and MMF flowers and surfboard. I made mine to match the paper party plates....

I found the instructions by looking up hibiscus in posts, and finding the people who said they have the instructions, and PMing them to see if they would share.

I can't seem to upload these because of too many pixels, but I have two cakes in my sports album. The fourth and fifth to the last cakes are a skim boarder and a surfer.
