Need some help, you creative cake people. I have a customer that has a daugther turning 19 and inviting 100+ kids to an outdoor party. She is wanting to use the My Size Barbie and make her cake skirt, the hula skirt.

Any ideas? She had suggested having Barbie sit down, but her legs will be splayed out. It will look like Barbie took a fall. And of course, being from a non-decorator, the lady said "Oh, it should only take 3 1/2 sheets to cover her legs."

Pam
I have no idea what size the *My Size* Barbie is, but this sounds like it's going to be a very interesting cake. How long are her legs???
I would think if baking different sized rounds, maybe starting witha 14 inch and going up to a 6 inch to make her skirt. How high each one is will depend on the lenght of the doll's legs. You would then carve the sides of each cake to make them all even out.

Heavens!!! that doll is THREE feet tall!!!

so about a foot and a half of legs at least!

if you stacked enough rounds/sheets to do that well, you'd certainly have enough cake for everyone.

while I can see in the mind's eye, ain't no way I'd try to do that w/ the doll standing up!

Definitely agree with ya Doug. I was thinking that if the legs can pop off, maybe I can do it something with them out to the side as in side-sitting. Or maybe to the back, like she is sitting on her legs.

Just have to put the thinking cap on for this one.

forget the legs...just pop them off and stick her in the cake like ya do a doll pick in a wonder mold.

My daughter has a similar doll, not exactly the Barbie one - but wanted to let you know that the legs do pop off easily. My son seems to enjoy doing that!!! I agree with Doug - get rid of the legs and just stick the torso into the cake. That's gonnna be a big cake!!! Can't wait to see how it comes out!!

I agree that the legs coming off would work, but another alternative would be to make a few dummy tiers that you can stick the legs in and have only the top layer or two around be cake. Then the cake would be the "my size" size, and still be managable. Just a thought.

Great idea mushbug9

Yes, I am getting rid of the legs. I am even thinking that just frost the cake in green then buy a green hula skirt at party store to put around it. WHat do ya think about that? Of course, I will get the OK from mom. Wouldn't want to embarrass her with tacky!

only issue w/ real hula skirt is food safety issues (the same like those w/ real flowers)

Kimanalyn--

Hey, nice to see another East Texan. Are you going to the ICES convention in Grapevine?

BTW--I can't wait to see what I do either.
