two ideas:

#1 -- cut sheet cake to diamond shape, white BC or fondant, lines drawn first in black BC then overed w/ either sugar sparkles or crushed rock candy.

#2 -- box cake done up to look like ring box, message inside top lid...
ring is one of those giant size diamond ring shaped suckers (lolli-pops)

thanks.

tho' I do think that pink jewel box is really cute and would make a great cake for the young lady.

I just don't think "cute"...that's just not a "guy" thing ....well at least not for this guy. ya notice, mine are the obvious "guy" concept of the the diamond idea. ah well.

I'm so sorry, I have No Idea how to prop the lid open. I did a search in the cake gallery for "box" and a bunch of cakes with lids came up. Some people tried to explain their process but I still don't quite get it.

I may attempt this cake and just make the top a removable lid and lean it up against the box.

I'm sure that behind the rock candy are a couple of dowels to hold the cake lid up at an angle. One site I saw used a cut up 9x13 cake and made 'wedges' using cake, if that makes any sense. Here is a link that gives pretty good instructions for making a Treasure Chest cake, which is close to this.

Also, TheCakeWizard on this site made a really cute treasure chest cake. I'm sure if you PM her, she can offer some good suggestions.
