Two days ago I received an email from a wedding planner about a wedding cake for 200 people. I found her online couple of months ago and contacted her about my cake business. She wasn't nice and kind of brushed me off in a rude way. Anyway when I red her email, i told myself no big deal It's business I need to have a thick skin and not take anything personal anymore. In her email she asked if I give event planners a commission and wonder if anyone heard of this before. Any info or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Hm that is very interesting. What i would say is to work out what you want to charge for the cake, then add $40 or so on top, for her comission. Dont take her comission out of your money, make the customer pay for her. If you are paying a wedding planner to organize everything, you would expect to pay them to find you a cake.
Did she say how much she wanted??
Just my two cents icon_biggrin.gif

My brother is a jeweler so he sends me a lot of business. He always gets a commission, but he's a pretty shrewd businessman. I would say paying a comission is pretty standard.

Well, here I go with my 2 bits. If she was rude maybe she was just on overdrive and stressed. Or then again she may just be a difficult person. In that case, you might want to reconsider doing anything for her because she may end up being the type that complains about everything. Commission is probably normal for throwing biz your way. Why not call other event planners and find out or even photographers. They get biz thrown their way too. It should come out of the bride's pocket though.

I would think it would be worth it to get orders from her. I think a commission or some kind of perk is reasonable in order to have her recommend you over others.

I've worked with 2 planners and never had to pay them, though. They were thrilled to have my services. It depends on what kind of competition you have in your area.

She's one smart cookie getting commissions from both the bride and the baker....hmmm...

Think about it this way....

When a real estate broker sells a house, who pays the commission? icon_wink.gif
