I posted this in the HOW DO I forum and so far nothing. Just thought if anyone here had any suggestions.
Ok so I wanna do the chocolate transferr, but I dont have any oil based colors. I only have the wilton color gels. Is it possible to use these without the candy seizing or am I jsut out of luck? They do have a little water in them but it is like the 4th ingrediant listed. Do I need to add some shortning to them. I know I read a thread somewhere about this, but I cant find it for the life of me.
I've been doing some candy melt/chocolate transfers and I bought the colour gels meant for the candy melts. I actually don't like them and I think next time, I will just spend the extra and get the candies that are already coloured. I just melt my candies in a baggie so when it came time to colour the melted candies, I found that the colouring agent was just too runny, it didn't seem to colour as well as I though it would and it seemed to take far more than I thought. For me, I'm going to get the already coloured ones...less hassle. So to answer your question though, I don't really know if adding something like shortning will work or not. I'm going to venture a guess and say no but I'm no expert though.
I colored the white melts with the Wilton dark blue paste. I did add shortening and it didn't sieze on me - but I did notice that it didn't get to as smooth a consistancy as the pre-colored melts. I wonder if I just didn't add enough shortening.
I would say try the coloring you have and some shortening with just a few melts and see if you can add enough shortening to get it as smooth as you want.
Good luck!
