I would like to use real roses to decorate my daughters christening cake (1/2 sheet). Any tips or reasons why I shouldn't?

How are you going to "attach" them to the cake ? I would probably use the florist's water picks to make sure they don't wilt, and perhaps some Saran Wrap under them so they don't touch the cake ......... it sounds beautiful.....

" didnt use water picks"

Oh, neat! I would be afraid of them wilting... good to know they won't....

I've used real roses a few times. I usually put a small ball of fondant on the cake and stick the roses into that. Have never used a posy pick, and the roses have always looked good for several hours (5 or 6)!

I just lay them on the cake. they don't wilt at all and the cake is usually set up 3 hours or so before it's cut.

Not really a good idea unless your florist can assure you that they are "food safe".....
