I'm not going to name names but I found someone on this site posting pictures as their own when I have found several sites the images were taken from. I'm hoping they read this and fix it themselves, this is a site for sharing ideas and knowledge not stealing other peoples work and claiming it as your own.
Think we're referring to the same member.

You may only upload cake photos that belong to you.
Uploading copyright protected images without permission of the source is not allowed. And will result in having your photo gallery privileges revoked permanently.
I'm so glad you brought this up! The other night I kept seeing these amazing cakes loaded and then when I would read their descriptions it would say something about how great they were and to make sure to leave lots of great comments. One even said something about it being the best purse cake she ever made. I was getting ready to PM her with instructions but then after viewing the rest I started to get suspicious. And then she kept leaving posts on how to make "snails". So weird!! The next day I tried to find the pic but couldn't and looked up her name and everything was gone, so I figured she was a fake.
I think it is sad.
If I had half the talent that you girls (and boys
) here on CC, I would be going out af my mind.
It's not right to copy or not give credit.
I'm glad that someone is looking out for all the talented people that are so nice and kind to let us newbies now how to get better.
JanH - I wasn't asking for anyone to justify anything said or done. Because the link to the photos wasn't given....(and b/c I didn't see it for myself), I guess I always tend to sway on the side of "giving the person the benefit of the doubt...assuming they didn't know about the policy of posting other people's cakes and assuming that they weren't taking credit for them."
But that's me. I also have come to know that YOU are definitely one of the 'good guys' here on CC. I'd never say anything to try to make you feel otherwise. I hope my post didn't put you on the defensive.
Now......reading just now that other people here SAW firsthand that this person was trying to pass these cakes along as their own....well, that's just sad. It doesn't even make me angry. I just see it as pathetic.
Oh well. Not everyone (obviously) is honest and forthright.
Tramski and I were trying to be diplomatic (not naming names, or identifying the photos), while publicly conveying (posting) the fact that we knew the pictures were "pirated".
sweet_as_tisse and other members also recognized the cake photos in question and also advised CC administration.
The offending member did remove the photos from his/her gallery. But the decision to permanently remove the member, the member's posts, and photo gallery was made by CC administration.
(We all know that reporting someone for pirating photos is a serious decision.) Tramski, sweet_as_tisse, the CC'ers who pm'd or reported the photos, and I were trying to protect our community from someone who obviously had little respect or regard for decorators.
I am hurt that you didn't have faith in your CC family, to discern the true nature of what was occurring.
(I never expected any thanks) but for you to think that neither I (nor Tramski, or sweet_as_tisse) would extend the benefit of the doubt to a newbie really cuts me to the quick.
Jan, I totally agree with you.
I did lots of research on the photo's before i reported it. what new members need to realise is we all love looking at cakes and we all have access to the internet so most of us here have seen alot of cakes.
i am not going to tolerate some new member uploading pic's that obviously dont belong to them. if you saw any of the cakes this person posted you would know in a heart beat than they were from several well known decorators...
cheers
kylie
well, that said, JanH, please let me sincerely apologize for offending you. It was SO not my intent at all. I think so highly of most people here (you included).....but it is also my nature to always extend the benefit of the doubt until proven that I should not do so. I'm sorry that this part of my nature has caused you to feel disrespected. Again...it wasn't my intention.
rlsaxe, apology accepted. ![]()
Your CC family has got your back, even if you don't know we're covering you.
wgoat5, actually another member also posted the snails recipe:

Can't believe I've been able to utilize two memorable quotes in the last two days.
***MODERATOR EDITED FOR GRAPHIC VERBAL WORDS..
Ok, please don't beat me up. I ask questions so I understand things. I know things in writing can come across badly. Like I said don't beat me up.
When I see these threads I always think to myself, so what? I personally don't like telling on someone. I just try to mind my own beeswax.
The person is pathetic, how sad. People that do these things get caught on their own. You can only go so far and it comes back in your face.
I've been around a few years and one thing I know for certain Karma will get you.
If it were my picture they copied I would write them and ask them to please remove it.
I honestly don't see why it's a big deal. Please, don't hate me.
In a way I find it humoreous that someone has to do that. I don't know what they think they can accomplish. Are they dreaming that it's their cakes? Is it a way to get praise? What good is that if it's not your's to recieve. I just don't get it, I would like to hear from them why they do it.
i am new to cake decorating and have been getting ideas for future cakes (when i have the know-how to do them) . but my question is this... can we not copy, duplicate the cakes that we see on this list? cuz if i have to only make cakes that i think up, i'm SOL!!.. i have not a creative bone in my body... is the issue just that this person took the credit for making the actual cake in the picture, or that the person copied the cake for thier use? if we are not allowed to copy/duplicate a cake from a picture we seen on this or any other website, we would have to look at all the thousands of pictures posted to make sure we weren't infringing on someone else's ideas. i could really use some clarification on this issue. like i said, i have no creativity to think up designs , but i can copy stuff pretty well... eagerly awaiting education on this sticky matter...laurie
Hi and Welcome kaciealexa,
Here's a list of CC acronyms:
http://forum.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-2926-.html
Copyright protects the photo not the design.
You may duplicate any cake you have the ability to make. (Giving credit is considered good etiquette, but not absolutely necessary.)
What you cannot do is lift a photo of a cake someone else has created and slap your name on it.
Additionally, on CC, you cannot upload anyone else's cake photos and claim them as your own.
(It is also a violation of copyright to cut (lift) content from another website and paste (post) it as if it were your own. However, linking to another website's info is acceptable as long as you give proper credit.)
For further clarification, you might want to read the CC terms and conditions of membership. ![]()
oh the snails thing and those photos
i saw those too....also with raised eyebrow...hmmm
ya know thats really sad, i dont get it...
to those that
figured it out and reported it
As I said in another post that helped me get in contact with everyone else that was noticing the same things I did I am glad that I am part of such a great community like this. It strted off as just something I did for fun, and now I love it and to know there are so mane great people out there looking out for one another makes me feel like I some great friends...even if I never get to meet all of them.
I saw the purse cake and thought it was HUM....... but I didn't know so I left it. Now I feel like a "do nothing about it" type. Anyway, I think that it is so sad that someone can think that they can get away with it and that there would be no concequences.
It is so funny because the first thing I do is tell someone "this is not my cake" when I am showing them a photo of a cake that belongs to someone else. Today for example I was looking up graduation cakes for a customer and the first thing I said that they were from CCer's, I sent her a few so she can pick and choose and get ideas. My family already knows, when they ask me for a cake I always tell them, let me look it up on Cake Central. DOn't you think that people would notice when you hand them a cake and dosen't look like the one in the photo that they have seen. Meaning that if they passing it off as their own on CC than they muxt be trying to pass it off as their own to customers.
It is such a good thing that there are very allert people here (although I am not that good to have picture stolen from me) and notice these things. A theift is a theift no matter what they are taking from someone.

I once saw a cake here that I really admired. Then the same day coincidentally I saw the exact same photo on another site. Of course I cant say which photo came first, but I only assume a cc member must have taken the photo because it had just been uploaded to cc that day. I said something to the effect that I had seen that cake on another site, that member then changed the description to say that they used another cake as inspiration, I think to sort of make it look like it was a replica. But it definitely was the same photo. I did not report it because I did not know for sure who made the cake...Should I? I thought after I had made the comment that person might have removed the photo. I guess it must be really important to some people to recieve praise that they have to go and steal pictures. I just dont get it though.
Hmmmm....darn, no one has wanted to steal my pix as their own...drat! ![]()
