Everyone,
Im relatively new to cakes, although I am familiar with edible images. But what are icing images or icing plaques? Ive seen them on several cakes recently and Im curious. How do you make them? Do you need a printer like the edible images? Im confused icon_confused.gif

I think that they are dried shapes of fondant that then have the image or writing applied to them.....But maybe someone else can tell us if I am wrong................. icon_lol.gif

I think its just dried fondant or candy...some people put edible images on them but others write on them with food markers or even just write on them with icing.

Thanks so much, this all makes sense, but has anyone actually TRIED this technique. Do you need any kind of adhesive for the image to stick to the dried fondant?

Thanks

Yesterday I was reading a post and I think they said to brush it with a tiny bit of water. then apply the image. Someone else suggested to mist lightly. Evidently if it is too wet the image will run???

I used the fondant plaques on a cake I made this week. They are pretty easy. I was making jungle animals. I printed out the edible image of the animals I wanted. I cut out the images, rolled out fondant, dampened it slightly with water on a small paint brush and attached the edible image to it. Then I used an exacto knife to trim around the images. It was time comsuming, but not difficult.

Thanks Marthajo1. I like how it helps to give a little bit of a 3-D look. I used scraps of fondant that I had colored, and was left over from other projects. I had lots of little pieces of different colors. I was able to match my fondant colors pretty closely to the color of the animal. I think I like that better than just putting them on white fondant. I had different animals on each side of the cake.

I know that an FBCT can look like a plaques and some people refer to them as plaques could that be what you are talking about or has your question already been answered?

Are agree! Price, your animal plaques are VERY cute and VERY well done. If all you did was stick an edible image onto some rolled our fondant, then this gives me hope! icon_smile.gif

Quesiton: Does it matter how thick your fondant is? I imagine just not so thin that it will break? 1/8 or 1/4 inch, just a guess...

Thanks so much

The way price used plaques is one way. I make plaques a lot as a base for placing & decorating some things on & the placing the completed plaque on the cake. My fairy is on a plaque, so is the clown & Raggedy Ann. in my photos. You can buy cutters or use anything to get the shape you want.
