I made this cake today for a friend of a friend, it's the red striped one in my gallery. I kind of liked this design and was thinking of making this as my "standard" birthday cake if no other design was asked by the client. So, my friend picked it up today and he said that "It looks like it's for a kid!". icon_surprised.gificon_surprised.gificon_surprised.gif I thought that this design is general enough for both kids and adults. So I need your honest opinion if this cake looks childish and I would also appreciate any suggestions as to make it less so. I just need another different point of view. Thanks a lot!

I think the cake is Great! And it really doesn't look like a Kids cake. The only thing I can think of that she is refering to is the Font used on the lettering. It looks good, but it kind of reminds me of the writing used by teachers.....you know....the ones used above the chalkboard! That's the only thing that I can think of. And that may just be me.

I think it just depends on the person. I think your cake is beautiful. I love the stripes that you used on the sides.

Thanks for the feedback and nice comments everyone! Yes, I guess it is subjective on who's looking at it. I made a similar one for a man and he loved it.
I agree Sherry, maybe it is the font. Funny thing is that I just want to try something more fun that my usual script! icon_lol.gif

I think it's great, and not childish. I wouldn't have you make that cake for my daughter, but I'd have you make it for a friend/relative.

Great job, and your writing is great too. In all honesty, the cutout letters are what *might* be making your friend think it looks like it's for a kid. Those would be my least favorit part, but I still love the cake.

I Would be disappointed if you made that for my child. Not childish at all! Maybe your friend just has something else in mind and couldn't communicate it to you. I think it's great and would keep it as a standard.

I don't think the lettering even looks childish. I think it looks very classy. Maybe because some of the lettering was script and some wasn't? I don't know, but I liked it.

let me guess...your friend -- a "he" -- is one of those "paint it all beige" guys, who wears kakis and has mostly plain solid color shirts in "safe, conservative" colors???

just think about the source of the comment...some people just don't find bright colors and strips fun --- too much excitement for their "beige" world.

My 100% honest opinion on this is... NO!! It doesn't look like a kid's cake at all. icon_wink.gif I think it could be used for just about anyone. Like the design and wonder why this friend had to say anything other than "thank you"?

I don't think it's childish at all! I think it's absolutely beautiful!!!

And, what's great about it is that you can do the stripes in different colors and/or instead of roses put something else there (like for a little boy...)

I think it's a great looking cake and I love how you wrote "happy birthday" on it!
