I'm thinking of doing the Elmo face pan on top of either a square of rectangle cake. I've never stacked before, and I need to know the best way to do this. Do I have to use a cake board under the Elmo or can I just put it directly on top of the cake below?

Thanks!

I've done it both ways; serving is easier if you have a cardboard underneath the shaped pan. If you stack it without a board you will have to cut through both cakes to serve it. I usually decorate the shaped cake and ice the sheet cake first, then just place the shaped cake on the sheet cake. No need to use dowel rods. Then just add any additional decorations and borders. Good luck!

I have done it both ways... I will stack directly if they are the same flavors inside... if not then I cut the shaped pan a board and ice the top of it and place it on iced sheet, finish the trim and borders on both after placed. I have never used dowels for stacking a character on a sheet... good luck, hope it works for you....!

I did the jeep pan...made 2 of them, put a filling in between...stacked them on top of each other...it was kind of tall but we just cut thinner slices...it looked really cool....like a huge jeep....I piped grass and mud all around the bottom thumbs_up.gif
