I usually make the 1/2 butter, 1/2 crisco recipe for bc because I like the taste much better than all crisco.

I'm going to make a practice batch of icing to try to make some bc roses. Is there any particular recipe that's easier to make roses with?

Thanks.

Yes!!! I made them with butter ther other day and had a terrible time. To me, the all crisco recipe is much easier to work with. The recipe I used is as follows (Not Wilton):

1 2/3 cups Crisco
2 tsp clear vanilla
1/4 tsp popcorn salt
2 lbs powdered sugar, sifted
1/4 cup + 1 Tbsp water

In large mixing bowl, cream together Crisco, water, vanilla and salt. Add powdered sugar, one cup at a time till creamy. This is a stiff icing and works great for piping roses.

I get it at Kroger. It is very fine grain and sold with regular salt. You can use regualr salt and dissolve in the water if you can't find the popcorn kind.

You can also run a cup of regular salt in your blender to make it a super fine grain. Popcorn salt is pretty much the same as regular but it is super fine. It disolves faster, which is why it is great for icings...no discolored dots. LOL
